This profile describes Supportive Housing Management Services (SHMS). SMHS was created by ACTION-Housing, based on its recognition of the increasing needs of individuals and households with low incomes and special needs for support services that would help them maintain their housing status. ACTION-Housing also recognized that SMHS could provide owners with property management services and technical support in an effort to promote sound management of affordable housing.

This profile is one of 32 included in The Enterprise Foundation's 1997 publication, "Beyond Housing: Profiles of Low-Income, Service-Enriched Housing for Special Needs Populations and Property Management." It describes transitional and permanent housing programs that successfully demonstrate the integration of social services and housing. It also includes property management programs that successfully demonstrate sound property management services sensitive to the needs of low-income people.
