Expert Chat: Rapidly Re-housing Families Who Experience Homelessness

Rapid re-housing programs minimize the time families experience homelessness by providing short and long term rental assistance, housing search and placement assistance and home-based case management. This second online discussion in the Housing First Series focuses on helping families return to housing and their communities more quickly, and reducing the strain on the shelter system. The panelists will describe the transformation of homeless shelter programs to ones that help families move into housing quickly. Skills and staffing that a program needs to acquire, funding challenges, as well the broader impact on communities that adopt a Housing First approach will also be discussed.

New Orleans Earned-Income Workshop Series

Three Louisiana foundations -- the Greater New Orleans Foundation, Louisiana Association of Nonprofit Organizations and the Louisiana Disaster Recovery Foundation -- have partnered with Community Wealth Ventures of Washington, D.C., to launch a workshop series to help nonprofit organizations in New Orleans develop or grow earned-income business ventures. The six-month series consists of monthly “peer learning sessions," with topics covering market research, financial analysis, competitive analysis, pricing and capitalization. The goal is for all participants to complete a business plan and launch or grow a viable business.
